As I look through photos of my favorite fall looks, I realize they all have one thing in common: layers and layers. I have one problem with this look. My under layers are pathetic.

Here's a little confession: most days, I can't take off my cardigan because my tank has a hole in it. Then there are those mornings I think, Eh I can get one more wear out of this tee with a strategically placed scarf. I could go on and on...

Start off with a couple super soft basics from James Perse ![](https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/blogger_img_proxy/AEn0k_vgjmD5e2tdnuLft2GyXe1JSqL09QQxQ-sBG8yCQKe7WDG479aoiCCVCAW2N9r98xoi0Es6eRHc-35T8q7O7dCsx2ko1m5chJ2WXa-juh0qaQQfnJfjCA=s0-d)
Add a little color and some drape with simple tees from Splendid![](https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/blogger_img_proxy/AEn0k_t9c-IfqaqKuVuMCqoJzly9Mg6jvWCNl_v8sK2lnAde2ZJ__iS9g_p4w95T60LWsJHIaUrLhpzjIfBm_7SUvXiYtcapWXXa0VGDjjn3xXU-T-c3N7SZ8atln8ewI3ua9htgXvHZzdeg5nPHcLUzAW0ka_SUFq1g9Kb6RBE=s0-d)
And remember: under layers don't have to be boring. Throw in a little fun with these tops from Ella Moss![](https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/blogger_img_proxy/AEn0k_uSJ-AFRZtgY8annD6Qmg5ks0bPoU5pwLv1OJLc16eYMpm1xmiOFXQ9tbD8SkJWFIeGrHw_looPjFAdDFwYcmgaKLizPqd0bOe1A57ticJjmrKsOhbqrKlhJr-dAMr-Acc2hc-ksPklq257ksFZdKxcI5kaJFyhDZ_E-kE=s0-d)

Oh Chris! Such lovely inspiration! The good thing about layering is that sometimes you can use old stuff underneath, but it is necessary to update it every once in a while - these are great options! Love them all!
Slendid is a great company to shop for under layers. The items are usually more that I would spend for tees and tanks but so worth it because they are so, so soft and comfy.
so true... I have the same exact problem myself! i am not a great dresser and even with help i do struggle to put things tog. and look nice on them...whats to do?
thanks for the helpful hints today!

lovely blog by the way!!
Absolutely agree. I just purchased a few long sleeve plain thin tops as layering basis. Since these will be layered upon I like to spend very little. Good places for basic tops in variety of colors is stores like 'Closet', 'Forever 21', H&M and newport news catalog. Alloy and Delia's also have good prints as well. I love catalog shopping. Much easier with kids.
Girl, I have the same sorry under layers as you do! Holes, stains, you name it...definitely in need of an update too. Only mine have to come from the Target price-point!
