Words to Live By

Good news. The to-do list is looking more manageable. One more day and I should have it back under control. I really love this list. We all run at such a hectic pace; this helps to bring the simple pleasures back into perspective.

Have a Happy Thursday. I'll pop back in later with something pretty. :)

So Little Time...

So many projects, so little time. I'm feeling a little bit crazy today over the amount of projects I've taken on recently. Seriously, the last couple months I swear there are fewer and fewer hours in a day. I'm working and working but my to-do list keeps getting longer and longer. So today's the day; I'm tackling that list. I hope I at least make a dent in it. Wish me luck!

In case youre curious, here's the first part of my list:
1. Email proof to client
2. Pick up more paper
3. Print & cut 600 favor tags
4. Print & cut 100 more
5. Design water bottle labels, napkins, and more favor tags
6. Design & print place cards
7. Print thank you notes
8. Oh, and don't forget Mr. H. He needs to be clothed, fed, and entertained today, too.

And those are just the immediate things on my list. More weddings in the future, and plenty of neglected housework should be on that list as well. Have a great day!

What's on your to-do list today?

There's nothing like a few lovely balloon photos to lift the spirits on this chilly, grey Tuesday.

Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul.
And sings the tune
Without the words,
and never stops at all.

Let's do Lunch

Anyone care to join me for lunch? Today's chilly weather is just perfect for soup and a sandwich.

Not to mention that this is the absolute cutest soup packagaing I've ever, ever seen. Seriously. Don't know where the restaurant is, but I must find it.

Last week, the darling Jackie tagged me. I know you're probably getting sick of reading my answers to various tags, but since this one is on my favorite subject I just couldn't resist. The rule is simple: name your five favorite things about being a mother.

1. I get to give and receive unconditional love everyday. There is not a thing he could ever do that would make me love him less. And having a child of my own has helped me see how my own parents love me. H is in the most delightful stage right now. He loves me unabashedly and whole-heartedly. I hope someday he will know how much I utterly adore him.

2. I get to be a kid again; but I get to appreciate it more this time around. And that means the simple pleasures in life: blowing bubbles, pbj with no crust, rocks in your pockets, chasing lizards, finger painting and string cheese.

3. I'm always learning something new. Whether it's first-aid skills, outer space trivia, or all the names of the Cars characters, I'm always learning about things I never had much interest in before he came on the scene.

4. Constant laughter. I can't tell you how many times in a day I laugh with my boy. I love seeing his little sense of humor emerge; I love knowing what makes him laugh and then being rewarded with a big, gigantic, genuine giggle session. Whether it's a good old-fashioned tickle, or laughing just to keep my sanity when there's a new mess to clean up, laughter is one of the constants in my life.

5. Being a mother is both my greatest joy and my greatest challenge. I've never worked so hard for so little recognition. I've never given so much of myself and my time; I've never gone without sleep for such a long period of time. But I've also never been so happy and so fulfilled. I've never felt such a sense of purpose. I've never felt such complete love and joy. Being a mom is definitely the greatest thing I will ever do in my entire life.

Now, the part where I have to tag other people. Maybe it's a cop out, but if you have kids, consider yourself tagged. This was a really good experience for me to take the time to realize exactly why I love being a mom. I think you should all take a couple minutes and do the same thing. It will definitely get your week off to the right start.

Happy Friday

Sorry for the late post this morning. I'm feeling a bit more nauseated than usual this morning...but I guess that goes with the territory.
This photo is from our little fishing expedition last weekend. We had such a great time that we're renting a little motorboat this weekend for round two. What are your weekend plans?

Pretty Blogs

Here are a few of my newest blog obsessions. All four are filled with beautiful things and always so inspiring. Enjoy!
Written by interior desiging friends, this blog is just like having a best friend with all the best insider information and fresh, new design tips.
I love this blog because I get a glimpse of life in Finland; but she writes in both English and Finnish, so I can still understand! Not to mention that it's filled with pretty pictures.

This little gem is my newest go-to when I'm in need of inspiration. Or when I'm feeling tired and just need a little something pretty to get me through the day. It's page after page of loveliness.

driving over lemons

I'm really starting to fall for Tumblr, because it's just a quick dose of pretty right when you want it. This one is definitely that. Simply gorgeous photos and lovely words. What more could you want?

Have a beautiful Thursday!

I'm No Good at Tag

Growing up, I was never any good at tag. I got so nervous about it. What if I got tagged, and then couldn't run fast enough to tag anyone else? Just thinking about it brings on a wave of anxiety. Luckily, this kind of tag is easier to handle...the problem is that you have to deal with me blathering on about myself. It won't hurt my feelings one bit if you just ignore my blog completely today. But thanks to the lovely T. of Kotori for including me in this fun little game of tag.
(Photo here)

What's your current obsession?
Cooking. I've always liked cooking. But lately, I've been really into planning my menus for the week and making new, fun dinners just to keep it interesting around here.

What's your weirdest obsession?
Spelling. I can't stand misspelled words. I've always been a little nutty about spelling.

What are you wearing today?
My favorite jeans (gotta wear them as much as I can while they still fit!)
Turquoise tee with a fun, ruched neckline
Dangly silver bracelet and earrings
No shoes...I never wear them in the house, for comfort's sake. But when I do go out, I'll probably throw on my favorite green ballet flats.

Why is today special?
Because it's not 94 degrees outside! This week has been killing me. I'm so glad we get a break from this crazy heat. It's just made me realize exactly how much I'm not looking forward to the heat of summer.

What would you like to learn to do?
Sing. But that'll never happen. Really. So a more achievable goal is that I'd like to learn to cut hair.

What's for dinner today?
Swedish meatballs and rice.
Spinach salad.
Fresh fruit.

What's the last thing you bought?
The thing I bought were yesterday's groceries, but that's no fun.
So the last fun thing I bought was new baseball pj's for my son. He loves them.

What are you listening to right now?
Right now? Silence. A pretty rare thing around here.
Musically? When B comes home, the boys often have a little air guitar session featuring blues or Van Halen. And I have to say that their musical tastes are starting to grow on me.

What's your favorite weather?
I love an occasional rainy day. But for everyday, give me 75 and sunny.
(Photo here)

What's your most challenging goal right now?
Trying to keep up my normal schedule while I have zero energy. I really don't want to make little H suffer along with me, so I've been trying extra hard to maintain his social schedule during pregnancy. It's tiring, but it's worth it, and the housework is taking the brunt of the neglect.

What do you think about the person who tagged you?
Kotori is so genuine and kind. I really admire her in so many ways. She has a beautiful home, and a beautiful family. I can tell that she gets joy out of being a mother and I love that.

If you could have a house totally paid for, fully furnished anywhere in the world, where would you like it to be?

San Francisco. No doubt about it. That's the one place I've ever lived that I instantly felt at home. I felt like I truly belonged there. A little cliche, but as far as cities are concerned, my heart will always belong to San Francisco.
(Photo Here)

Favorite vacation spot?
Hawaii. Perfect weather, great food, water sports, and sitting on a beach. But then, I've never been to Europe. London seems like my kind of city...maybe someday I'll find out.

What would you like to have in your hands right now?
A nice, cold Diet Coke. Only 6 more months to go. One of the worst things about being pregnant.

What would you like to get rid of?
This horrendous sunburn I got on my neck and shoulders from our trip to the beach on Monday. It's actually starting to blister and it hurts like crazy!

If you could go anywhere in the world for the next hour, where would you go?
I'd love to go home and see my mom. I've been missing her a lot lately.

Which language do you want to learn?
I know some Spanish, but I'd love to use it enough that I don't forget everything. And I'd love to be able to hold up a decent conversation.

What did you dream of last night?
Nothing. I actually didn't sleep at all because of this stupid sunburn. I spent part of the night tossing and turning in bed and finally gave up and tried to rest on the couch for the remainder of the night.

What's your favorite thing about the city you live in?
It's so conveniently located. It's just a quick drive to the airport or the A's games. It's by so much fun kid stuff. We even have a lake here in town for boating and fishing. There's tons of biking trails and other fun outdoor stuff. It has a small town feel, but close to the city, so I can go back anytime I feel too homesick.

What's your favorite piece of clothing in your own closet?
That's tough. But in my opinion, you can never go wrong with a great-fitting pair of jeans. My current faves are my super dark Citizens.

What's your dream job?
I love that I'm lucky enough to be a stay-at-home mom. I couldn't bear to miss a moment of H's life. He's my best little buddy, and soon enough it won't be so cool for him to hang out with his mom, so I'm going to soak it up while I can. If I had to have an occupation in addition to being a mom, I would be an interior designer.

If you had $150 now what would you spend it on?
Date night with B. Those don't happen nearly often enough.

Do you admire anyone's style?

Anne Hathaway. She always looks impeccable, polished, and always perfect.
(Photos here)

Describe your personal style.
Comfortable and casual, but not sloppy. I have to be ready to run and play and get dirty, so washability is a huge factor for me these days. I always try to include a fun twist with every outfit...colored shoes, statement jewelry, etc.

Who's fashion show would you want tickets to?
Marc Jacobs...I've been drooling over his work for years.
(Photo here)

Who's closet would you want to raid?
Probably the Lucky Magazine closet. What closet would be better to raid than a fashion magazine? For me, Lucky is the most approachable fashion around, and stuff I could easily wear and still feel like myself.

What are you most proud of?
Our cute little family. I love seeing the way we love each other and enjoy being around one another.

Now the rules of this tag:
1. Respond and rework: answer the questions on your blog, replace one question you dislike with a question of your own invention.
2. Tag 7 other people you would love to learn more about. Here's mine:

Be Still My Heart

My heart literally skipped a beat when I saw an email update from my beloved Ork Posters sitting in my inbox this afternoon. They're announcing their newest product...The Heart. I guess my posts today are taking on a Math & Science theme, huh?

But wouldn't this be a cute gift for that anatomy scholar in your life? I know there's someone in my home (besides me) who could appreciate this. Get yours here. And definitely check out their neighborhood posters that I've raved about previously.

Sweet Fractions

I never was any good at fractions. Perhaps this is just the kind of visual aid that would have helped me understand.

PaperCut Greatness

I have serious respect for papercut artists. Here's a new one I just found:

Isn't she amazing? Any day now she'll have some of her recent projects posted on her blog. I can't wait to see them!

Now we're off to the beach with friends. Gotta enjoy the sun while it lasts.

Etsy Love

Just a small dose of Etsy Love to kick off your weekend. Three charming little art pieces that I enjoy:

Tree House

Hope you all have a great weekend! Mine's going to be a little bit Wicked.

Tooth Fairy Kit

I think I have a few friends who can appreciate this one. I think this Tooth Fairy Kit, is just too cute. H is still too little to lose a tooth, but he asks me every night before bed when the Tooth Fairy is coming. I'll have to get one of these so I can be prepared for that special day. And doesn't a certificate and a special tooth bag just make the whole thing seem more official?

We're off to enjoy the sunshine. I'll be back this afternoon with some Etsy Love.

Love Mix Wedding Invites

I love these so much I'm basically speechless. But I have to ask:
Are these not the coolest wedding invitations ever?

Designed by Adam Ramerth and printed by Studio on Fire.

I Heart Neil George

Last week, the lovely Mary Jo did some giveaways on the always amazing, Trust Your Style. I just so happened to be the lucky winner of the Detangle Nourishment Spray from Neil George. I don't usually get over-excited about hair products, but this stuff is SO good that it's taking all my willpower not to jump on the next flight just so I can have the entire Neil George Salon experience.
Let me expound a bit: I have thick hair. Not just average-thick. Monstrously thick. I'm not even kidding. My stylist has to book me for 1 1/2 appointments, with that extra 1/2 appointment being spent thinning out this mess. Because my hair is so thick, it takes forever to dry it every morning. Along with all that drying comes heat damage; but this stuff makes my dry, damaged hair look like new. So now I don't have to fear when I pull out that hairdryer. And you can bet that I'll be trying some other Neil George products in the near future.
Tell me, what are your favorite hair care secrets?

Hey Baby.

Well, the big day is finally here. I can now officially talk about what's been on my mind for the last three months. So I put together a little inspiration board to give you a hint.

You guessed it. I'm pregnant!

Whew. It feels good to get that one off my chest. I'm horrible at keeping secrets.
So here are all the answers to the commonly-asked questions:

1. I'm due October 28.
2. I feel good. Just tired. Haven't thrown up yet. But I didn't last time either, thank Heavens.
3. Yes, we're going to find out what we're having. We find out next month, actually.
4. H is very excited about our baby. He's all ready planning to take "him" Trick-or-Treating, and he checks everyday to see if Baby is growing.

So that's it. My BIG news. Probably not so big for all of you, but it's a big deal to us. And hopefully that explains my sporadic blogging and my sometimes late posts. I can't drag my butt out of bed in the mornings. Hopefully I'll get my energy back soon.

P.S. The words preggo and preggers make me want to vomit. If you use them in reference to me, you will be held personally responsible for ruining my no-throw up streak. And you don't want that, now do you?

A Favor

Spring wedding season is upon us. How do I know? Simply by the number of favor tags and sticker orders I have piling up. I love everything about weddings. And I'm a huge believer that an event is made in the details. Perhaps that's why I love being involved in the favor-making process. It's the last thing guests receive to remind them of a lovely occasion.

I also believe that nobody does weddings (or anything, for that matter) quite like Martha. So here are some of my favorite favor and packaging ideas for the season. All from Martha, of course.

Buffet-style favors seems to be the trend with most of my clients lately.
And what's not to love about a sweet, tasty buffet?
Whether it be a candy buffet or a cookie buffet, presentation and packaging are of the utmost importance.

And if a buffet's not your thing:

Single-serve favors are both classic and classy.
A brightly colored box at each place setting adds a splash of color.
I love the sweet simplicity of cherries in scalloped bags. Wouldn't this be darling at a summertime backyard wedding?
Well, enough looking at favors. It's time I get to work making them! But just remember, if you don't have a wedding looming, all of these ideas would make for a spectacular baby shower, birthday party, or just because party.

Oh, and a little head's up: don't miss tomorrow's post! Something BIG is happening around here.{Wink, wink.}

So Many Books, So Little Time

Ok, my friends. I'm in serious need of some literary advice. I've been in a bit of a reading rut lately. I keep starting books, only to lose interest--or worse, lose the book itself! I lost my current read last week in the airport; and right when I was getting into it. Ugh! So while I'm waiting patiently for a replacement copy to land on my doorstep, I could use some backup suggestions. Read any good books lately?

Happy Easter

Hope you have a very Happy Easter.
We dyed our Easter eggs today; there's a little boy who's so excited he can hardly stand it.
I hope the Easter Bunny finds our house tonight!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend, and I'll see you back here on Monday.
Next week's a big one...don't miss it!

Etsy Friday

This week's Etsy Friday is just a completely random assortment of things that caught my eye throughout the week. Enjoy!

I love the look of linen pillows, but I don't own any. I think it's high time.

Someday when I have my own boudoir, this pretty little mirror will feel right at home there.

Ahh, the carousel. And in Paris. Absolute perfection.

You all ready know my undying love for a good statement ring.

Wouldn't these darling cocktail napkins be the cutest shower gift?

H doesn't know it yet, but he needs this print for his room.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Oh! And I hope the Easter Bunny finds you. Peeps and Cadbury Creme Eggs all around. xo.

Good (kind of) Clean Fun

I love finding cool toys that are simple, fun, and kid friendly/earth friendly. Here are two picks that you could feel great about giving at that next birthday party, or just because:

I love that this puzzle has four different animal faces to put together. Or just get silly and make up your own animal. What I love even more: the blocks are made from durable wood and coated with a non-toxic finish. So you can breathe easy, even if a little someone decides to take a nibble.

In my book, there's nothing more fun than fingerpainting with your kid.
And these eco friendly, kid safe fingerpaints are the cause of
the (kind of) in the title of this post.
After all those times we spend cleaning up after the kids, why not try making a mess with your child?

Inspiring Inspiration Boards

Two things I can't live without: 1. Saving inspiring tidbits and 2. Clever organization. So it's only natural that inspiration boards are right up my alley. I've developed quite the crush on these lovely boards:

from My Home Ideas

from mayalu of the inspiring blog Maya Made

I think this was originally posted on sfgirlbybay, but I found it here.

Have a great day!
